The Other Side VR is the first-ever Virtual Reality experience depicting first-hand accounts from The Partition of India. The piece re-imagines traditional woodcut prints in the realm of immersive storytelling.

The official trailer introducing the novel woodcut immersive world and the expansive camp environment that temporarily housed migrants leaving their home, finding a new one across the India-Pakistan border.

Life-sized woodcuts were made for each primary character in the VR documentary and then scanned and translated into 3D animated actors ready to come to life in the film.

A collection of background characters that became assets part of a crowd simulation, these actors would always be spawned at a certain distance from the user. A variety of characters designs meant we need only a set of 6 unique styles, which simulated well in a larger space.

A collection of texture explorations, with the focus on bringing a broad variety of tones while retaining the wood grain and the variety of carving + Etching techniques.

The Other Side VR premiered at Left to Devices, curated by Lotte Marie Allen & Tiger Mackie at The School of Visual Arts Flatiron gallery in 2018.
